Instagram continues to increase its reach through updates to its Reels feature. Reel ads are now available in all regions. According to the platform:
“After testing in select countries, we’re launching Reels ads to the world. Reels is the best place on Instagram to reach people who don’t follow you and a growing global stage where brands and creators can be discovered by anyone. These ads will help businesses reach greater audiences, allowing people to discover inspiring new content from brands and creators.”
Reel ads will now be shown to users in full-screen format and distributed between individual Reels. The ads will be set on a loop and can be up to 30 seconds long. Users are able to not only comment on the ads but like, view, save and share after viewing.
It is still too early to tell how these monetized shot videos will perform. According to past studies done on TikTok, their paid ads perform better when they feel organic to the viewer. If ads come across too obvious, people will most likely tap past them. Depending on the industry and creativity put behind each ad this new feature will be a nice addition to many marketing campaigns. Instagram’s Chief Operating Officer confirms this by stating “we see Reels as a great way for people to discover new content on Instagram, and so ads are a natural fit. Brands of all sizes can take advantage of this new creative format in an environment where people are already being entertained.”
