Instagram’s newest advice for creators is quite straightforward. Stop posting recycled TikToks to Reels.
Instagram has made a significant change to it’s algorithm and how it recommends Reels to users. It will also be issuing what they find are the new best practices to give users tips on how to make content that’s likely to be seen and promoted.
Instagram now recommends that Reels users specifically post vertical videos and to use music found in Instagram’s library. They also suggest trying to start new trends others can participate in, like new dances, as well as entertaining and fun content. Reels that are mostly covered by text, are blurry, have a watermark or logo, or have a border around it won’t be recommended as frequently
Most importantly however, Instagram needs to make sure Reels isn’t just an advertisement for TikTok, or something that can happen on Facebook sometimes content is old and reused.
Whether you have a public or private account, you can share your reel to your Story, close friends, or in a direct message. If you do so, your reel will behave like a regular Story — it will not be shared to Reels in Explore, it will not appear on your profile, and it will disappear after 24 hours.
